JAKO invests 60 million euros in logistics new build
The earthworks for the project have already begun.
The team sports specialist JAKO is investing 60 million euros in the construction of a new logistics center at the company’s location in Mulfingen-Hollenbach. The nearly 8,000 m² building will include, in addition to a state-of-the-art container warehouse, all logistics areas from goods receipt to shipping. The completion of the construction project is planned for early 2027.
Investment in the Hollenbach location
This major project marks a new milestone in the development of the family business, which has grown steadily since its founding in 1989. The Hollenbach location has been continuously expanded – in 2023, for example, a new high-bay warehouse was opened, almost doubling the storage capacity.
“To continue growing in the future and to deliver to our customers quickly and reliably, the next expansion is now necessary,” explains CEO Nadine Sprügel. “For us, collections with long lifecycles, constant availability of all items, and fast delivery times are the cornerstones of our success. This leads to ever-increasing demands on logistics, which is why we are taking the next step and investing 60 million euros in the Hollenbach location.”
The company is thus reaffirming its commitment to the Hohenlohe region, where it is deeply rooted not only through the name JAKO (from JAgst and KOcher). “Given the numerous challenges of today’s times, such investments must be even better and more carefully considered,” continues Sprügel. “But we are confident in our growth opportunities as a brand and team sports outfitter and see the construction project as a logical step. Additionally, we are excited to grow as an employer in the region, creating many new jobs with the new building, just as we have grown so far.”
Bridge as a connection between company buildings
The new logistics center will be built across the street from the existing JAKO Teamcenter, connected by a bridge over Amtstraße. “In addition to the container warehouse with a capacity of 200,000 cartons, the building will include all functions from goods receipt to quality control, order picking, value-added services, and shipping,” says Markus Frank, Board Member for Digitalization & Logistics. JAKO is relying on innovative technologies, such as pick center workstations, robots, and automation in the packaging and shipping process. The existing AutoStore and high-bay warehouses will remain in place and will be connected via the bridge through conveyor technology.
Earthworks have started
Extensive earthworks for the project began in October 2024. The first step involved preparing the construction site for a winter-leveling project. At the same time, construction work on the existing building began for the extension of a handover building for the bridge over Amtstraße.
